Featheredge Post & Rail Fencing

Wardens were instructed to install a new 6ft high fence between two gardens, The fence of choice on this occasion was a featheredge post and rail system.

This system consists of timber posts being concreted in to the ground using a fast set concrete mix (Postmix) at 8ft intervals. Between the timber posts three rails are attached post to post, one top, one middle and one bottom. Then a 6″ timber gravel board is attached at the base between the timber posts and the featheredge slats are then nailed in one continuous run.

The overall length of this run is approximately 70ft and as you can see from the photos one side has the posts and rail showing and the other has the continuous run of featheredge.

We came across some stumps from a conifer hedge and had to use Ben from Wardens Tree Care to help grind them out to allow us to get the posts in.

Overall we think it looks a great job and adds a lovely finish both sides of the fencing.

Artificial lawn front garden

For this job the customer was looking for a low maintenance front to the property. We first had to clear and level the front garden, as the customer no longer wanted any steps to the front door, and the garden levels had a slope to the front..

The lawn a path areas were then marked out using sleepers and a front border was made.

The pathway was laid using a natural sandstone paver, and was laid on a full bed of sand and cement wet mix. The paving was then pointed in using a Geofix jointing compound.

The artificial lawn area was prepared using a layer of compounded hardcore stone, then a sharp sand layer on to which the artificial lawn was cut and secured.

At Wardens we are able to obtain samples of various artificial lawn, and this is how the customer was able to choose the finish lawn.

Finally a decorative stone was placed to one side of the pathway, and to the new front border area.

In our opinion we think that the finish result gave the customer the low maintenance frontage required and also complemented the house style.

Natural Sandstone and gravel Garden

Wardens were instructed for this job, to lift the old blocking from directly outside the house and to use the blocks to outline a new gravel area.

We then had to lay a weed preventing membrane, on to which a 20mm gold blend gravel was placed.

The area from which the old blocks were lifted was then slabbed using a natural sandstone paver. The paving was laid on a full bed of sand and cement wet mix.

To bring the new paving and gravel areas together, we placed some paving within the gravel area to allow the customer to place plant pots and ornaments.

All the borders were topped up with topsoil and a new rockery was created in one corner.

Finally all the paving was pointed in using a Geofix jointing compound.

Stonemarket Truestone Linear paving

Wardens were instructed for this job, to extend and lay a new patio around the rear of the property. We then had to continue the paving as a path to the top of the garden. All the paving was laid on a full bed of sand and cement wet mix, and the pavers used were Stonemarket Truestone linear.

The garden was suffering with holding water so a new level throughout had to be brought in, this was done by using topsoil to the lawn areas and once the new level was achieved we were able to lay a new lawn.

Sleepers were installed either end of the lawn to act as dividers between lawn, paving and new gravel areas. The gravel used was a Stonemarket polished black stone.

Finally all the paving was pointed in using a Geofix jointing compound.

In our opinion we think the final look brought a modern and stylish finish to the garden.

Paving, Raised Sleeper beds and Garden Lighting

For this job Wardens were instructed to lay a two level patio at the rear of the customers property.

The patio was done using Bradstone Cloisters paving.  It was laid in a random pattern and consisted of textured, smooth and multi colours as shown.  All Wardens paving is laid on a full bed of sand and cement wet mix to give a strong and lasting bond.

A raised bed using sleepers was then built around the higher tier of paving.  Another raised bed was also built down one side of the garden leading to a larger bed at the rear.

The old turf was removed and the ground leveled using topsoil.  A four inch border was installed around the edge using a gravel to match the new patio, and was retained using an edging.  Rolawn turf was then laid and watered in.

Spot lighting and border lighting was installed giving a different feel to the garden come evening time.

Decking

For this Job Wardens were instructed to excavate an area of 12′ x 24′ outside the rear of the customers property. A framework was then built and installed with the decking boards being attached. A centre board was installed to split the decking in half, and then the decking was framed in all corners as shown in the gallery.

Decking is a fantastic way to change any garden and gives an area to relax and enjoy the late summer sun and evenings, with a cold beer or glass of wine.
